Patrizia La Marca, a 53-year-old Italian woman, was fatally mauled by her brother’s Rottweiler while she was attempting to feed it this week, as reported by local sources.
Neighbors who heard her cries alerted the first responders, who arrived at the home in the northern resort town of Ventimiglia at around 4 p.m. La Marca was found lying in a pool of her own blood, with deep bites all over her head, arms, chest, and shoulders.
It took two hours for the responders to subdue the aggressive canine, who had to be shot and wounded before it was taken away to a city kennel.
La Marca was airlifted to a hospital, where she later passed away due to the severity of her injuries. An emergency worker shared that her body had been “torn apart in several places,” adding that “they had never seen anything like it.”
Mayor Isio Cassini commented that such a tragedy had never occurred in Ventimiglia, expressing his sorrow for La Marca and her family.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the future of the dog.
