U.S. Mail Carrier Killed While on Duty, $250K Reward Offered

A tragic incident unfolded in Chicago when a mail carrier was killed while on duty. The U.S. Postal Service is now offering a reward of up to $250,000 for information that could help solve the case. The victim, identified as 48-year-old Octavia Redmond, was shot just before midday on Friday on South Harvard Avenue, located on the city’s South Side. The assailant fled the scene in a vehicle.

James McGee, a local resident, recounted his interaction with Redmond just moments before the incident. He said they had exchanged pleasantries and commented on the pleasant weather. McGee was working in his yard when the shooting occurred.

Redmond was a familiar face in the neighborhood, known for her friendly demeanor. Kim Sanders, an employee at a local group home, expressed her grief over Redmond’s untimely death. Sanders described Redmond as a harmless individual who simply delivered mail and never caused any trouble.

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the community and the postal service. A flag was lowered at a union hall in honor of Redmond, who had been a mail carrier for over 15 years. Her husband is also an employee of the Postal Service.

Elise Foster, a local official at the National Association of Letter Carriers, expressed her outrage over the incident. She emphasized the fear that has gripped her members, who are now apprehensive about going to work. Foster condemned the audacity of the attacker, questioning how someone could dare to harm a federal employee and think they could escape justice.

The investigation into Redmond’s murder is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward, in hopes that the substantial reward offered by the U.S. Postal Service will encourage potential witnesses to help bring the perpetrator to justice.
