Snake Emerges from Couch as Family Watches Television

A Lincolnshire, England family had an unexpected encounter with a snake while enjoying a peaceful Sunday evening at home. The Pantziz family was startled when a large snake emerged from under their couch, prompting them to hastily evacuate their home. Harry Pantziz, the head of the family, shared that they were uncertain about the identity of the creature and quickly sought refuge in their garden. His wife reached out to a local wildlife park for help, as they nervously observed the unfolding situation from a safe distance.

Ark Wildlife & Dinosaur Park, situated in nearby Stickney, responded to the call for help. They sent a specialist to identify and manage the unanticipated visitor. At first, the family speculated that it might be a native grass snake looking for a hibernation spot.

However, upon arrival, Jamie Mintram, a representative from Ark Wildlife & Dinosaur Park, quickly discerned that the snake was not a local species. He identified the creature as a Florida Kingsnake, a species indigenous to Florida, USA, and not typically found in central England. This non-venomous snake can grow up to four feet long.

Mintram explained that Florida Kingsnakes are often bred for the pet trade in the UK, suggesting that the snake, now named Micky, was likely an escaped pet. Ark Wildlife & Dinosaur Park is currently providing temporary shelter for Micky until they can locate his owner.

Mintram further discussed the snake’s escape abilities, stating that snakes are incredibly skilled at escaping. He assured that Micky was in good health after being warmed up and properly cared for. Florida Kingsnakes are typically sold for around $100 in the pet trade.
