Missing 5-Year-Old Found Dead in Pond

A tragic event occurred in Charles County on Sunday when a 5-year-old autistic boy was discovered dead after disappearing from his home. The local Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Miles McMahon, who was unable to speak, went missing from a house in the Bannister neighborhood of Waldorf.

Miles was last seen around 11 a.m. in the vicinity of his home on St. Pauls Drive. Surveillance footage showed him playing in the front yard before his sudden disappearance. His family, unable to find him after a thorough search, alerted the authorities, triggering a large-scale search operation.

Officers from Charles County swiftly established a boundary and focused their search on nearby ponds and waterways, deeply concerned by Miles’ disappearance. They appealed to local residents to check their properties, including swimming pools and potential hiding spots, and to review any security footage for signs of the missing child.

The search operation was comprehensive, involving a drone team, Maryland State Police’s Trooper 2, and local officers from the La Plata Police and the Charles County Dive Team. K9 units and bloodhounds were also deployed in the hope of locating the boy safe and sound.

Sadly, the Maryland State Police Dive Team found Miles’ body in a pond near his home. The Sheriff’s Office expressed the profound sadness felt by all involved in a statement, sharing the tragic news and extending condolences. They asked the community to keep Miles and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
