The Chandler Police Department in Arizona apprehended a 38-year-old man, Mohammad Alkurdi, suspected of shooting and murdering his wife inside an apartment with their children present.
An alarmed neighbor contacted the police when they heard Alkurdi say, “I shot her,” as he exited the apartment, one of the young children corroborating the statement.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered Alkurdi with the gun and his four children, all under nine years old. The investigating officers found that at least two shots were fired and recovered the weapon from the crime scene.
Court documents uncovered that Alkurdi had a past of domestic violence and had procured a gun shortly before the shooting. He has been charged with first-degree murder and may face additional charges for child endangerment.
Authorities are in the process of informing Alkurdi’s wife’s relatives from abroad and have not yet released her identity.
