3 First Responders Killed Responding to Call

In a tragic incident on Sunday morning, two police officers and a paramedic from Minnesota lost their lives while responding to a domestic violence call. The incident occurred in Burnsville, Minnesota, a town located approximately 15 miles south of Minneapolis. The call was initially reported as a “family in danger” situation, according to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

The local dispatch in Dakota County described the situation as an “incident with weapons.” Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were also called to the scene, which they identified as a “domestic-related shooting.”

A local resident, Jason Skog, reported hearing sounds resembling a firecracker or a flash-bang around 5 a.m., followed by gunfire. Local authorities instructed residents to stay indoors for their safety. The unfortunate incident resulted in the death of two police officers and a paramedic, as reported by local news outlet WCCO-TV.

The scene was filled with emergency vehicles, including fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, and SWAT vehicles. One of the SWAT vehicles reportedly had multiple bullet holes in its windshield, indicating the intensity of the situation.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar expressed her condolences on social media, acknowledging the officers who were shot while performing their duties. Governor Walz echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the bravery and sacrifices made by police officers and first responders.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara asked for prayers for the Burnsville Police Department. The Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association expressed their devastation over the loss, highlighting the bravery and dedication of the fallen heroes.

Several other officials, including Rep. Jim Nash, Secretary of State Steve Simon, and Rep. Betty McCollum, expressed their shock and sorrow over the incident. Governor Walz has ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff starting Monday morning in honor of the fallen officers and paramedic.
