Woman Arrested After Allegedly Stabbing Husband, Driving Kids into Lake

A Texas woman is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stabbing her husband and then driving her three children into a lake. Wei Fen Ong was arrested last Friday and is now facing three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated assault on a family member resulting in serious bodily injury, according to court documents.

The incident began early Friday morning when Carrollton, Texas, police and fire personnel responded to a domestic violence call. The caller, who had been stabbed, was the husband of Ong. The man, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

While Carrollton police were attending to the stabbing incident, officers from the Lewisville Police Department, a town approximately 25 miles northwest of Dallas, were responding to a separate but related call. A vehicle had been driven into a lake near Hebron Parkway. The driver was identified as Ong, and there were three children in the car, aged 8, 9, and 12.

Upon arrival, first responders were able to rescue all four occupants from the submerged vehicle. The eldest child had managed to free himself from the car upon the arrival of the first responders. Another child was unconscious when pulled from the vehicle, but officers were able to revive the child on the scene. The third child was rescued by fire personnel and revived en route to the hospital.

Ong and the eldest child received minor treatment at a local hospital. The two younger children were transported to a hospital in Plano, Texas. According to police, two of the children are in stable condition, while the third remains in critical condition.

A local resident, Wallace Rose, who was fishing in the area at the time of the incident, initially thought it was an accident. “I saw what I thought was an accident, but it turned out, I guess, a little bit more than an accident,” he said. “I’m not really religious, but if I was, I’d pray for the family. I hope that they are OK.”

Police have yet to speculate on a possible motive for the stabbing and the subsequent driving into the lake. Ong is currently being held on a $1.8 million bond.
