Walmart Massacre in Virginia

On Tuesday night, multiple people were shot and killed inside a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia. This comes just days after the high-profile mass shooting in the Colorado L.G.B.T.Q. Nightclub.

A brief news conference was held by Chesapeake Police Department spokesman Leo Kosinski, who said the shooter was found dead at the store on Tuesday night. Police believe that there was only one shooter.

According to Mr. Kosinski, the Police Department responded to a report of a shooting inside Walmart at about 10:15 p.m.

The officers found “multiple fatalities and multiple injuried” inside the store when they entered.

Mr. Kosinski did not provide an exact number of those shot and killed, but he did say that he thought it was “less than 10.”

Kosinski said investigators still had no idea whether the shooter was an employee or if he died by suicide. It was his understanding that police had fired no shots.

Mr. Kosinki said, “it’s sad. You know we’re a couple days before the Thanksgiving holiday,”

There has been a wave of gun violence over the last few weeks. Just days ago, five people were killed at an L.G.B.T.Q. Night Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Another highly publicized shooting happened in Charlottesville, Va. When three University of Virginia football players were shot and killed, and two others were injured and hospitalized.

Police are working to find more victims inside the Walmart. Kosinski said, “People could get scared; they could be hiding,” he added, “We want to make sure that everyone is accounted for.”

The Chesapeake Conference Center has been set up with resources for relatives of those affected by the shooting.

This is a developing story.
