In a tragic turn of events, a promising 25-year-old Indian tennis player, Radhika Yadav, was allegedly murdered by her father in Gurugram, India. The incident took place on a Thursday afternoon, resulting in the arrest of her father, Deepak Yadav. The local authorities were informed by a city hospital about a woman who had died from gunshot wounds. However, when the police arrived, only Radhika’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, was present.
Kuldeep filed a report about his niece’s death at the Gurugram Sector 56 police station. The unfortunate event reportedly happened at their home, following Deepak’s disapproval of a tennis academy run by his daughter. It is speculated that a disagreement between the father and daughter escalated, leading to the fatal incident.
According to Vinod Kumar, a police officer, Deepak had been under stress for a while due to comments from local residents about his daughter’s income. The locals allegedly mocked him, insinuating that he was excessively dependent on his daughter’s earnings. Despite Deepak’s repeated pleas for Radhika to quit working at the academy, she refused, leading to a tipping point in their relationship.
Deepak reportedly admitted to the crime, confessing to the police that he had shot his daughter five times, with four bullets hitting her. The news of Radhika’s death has left her friends and the tennis community in shock and mourning.
Himaanshika Singh Rajput, a close friend of Radhika, shared her grief on Instagram. She referred to Radhika as her best friend and mourned the tragic circumstances of her death. She remembered Radhika as a vibrant, kind-hearted individual full of dreams and vitality.
Radhika had a bright tennis career, having participated in 36 singles matches and seven doubles matches on the ITF circuit. Her last professional match was in March 2024. The tragic incident has left a gap in the tennis community and raised serious concerns about domestic violence.
