Late Wednesday, a woman’s body was discovered floating in the Hudson River near Lower Manhattan. Authorities are currently investigating if she is the same individual who disappeared into the river the previous day, despite the heroic rescue attempts of bystanders.
The woman, whose identity remains unknown, was found in the river near Canal and West streets around 7:50 p.m., according to police reports. The Harbor Unit of the police department was dispatched to the scene, where they retrieved her body from the water. Emergency medical services personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
The incident follows a similar event that occurred the previous day. A woman jumped into the Hudson River in the same vicinity. Despite the valiant efforts of good Samaritans who jumped in after her, she could not be saved.
Authorities are now investigating if the woman found on Wednesday is the same individual who jumped from the nearby Pier 34 around 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Two men had attempted to rescue her, but their efforts proved futile.
The woman who jumped into the river on Tuesday is believed to have been between 30 and 40 years old. After she failed to resurface, both the Harbor Unit and the Fire Department of New York initiated a search operation.
