Student Dead After Armed Intruder Opened Fire on Campus

KENNESAW, Ga. – A tragic incident unfolded at Kennesaw State University on Saturday afternoon when a student was fatally shot, prompting a brief lockdown on the campus. Authorities responded to reports of an “armed intruder” around 4 p.m., but within an hour, school officials confirmed that the situation was under control.

Law enforcement sources revealed that a female student had been shot near the campus housing area on the south side, leading to the temporary lockdown. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.

While campus spokesperson Tammy DeMel reassured the community that there is no ongoing threat, there is no confirmation yet on whether the detained individual is connected to the initial report of the armed intruder.

The incident comes nearly seven months after nursing student Laken Riley was killed near the intramural fields of the University of Georgia. The suspect in that case, 26-year-old Jose Antonio Ibarra, is currently facing charges including murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault with intent to rape, and kidnapping.

As investigators continue to delve into the details of this latest campus shooting, the Kennesaw State University community mourns the loss of one of its own.
