Esteemed actor William Shatner, 94, was rushed to a hospital following a health scare at his home in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The actor, best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the legendary television series “Star Trek,” was the one who contacted emergency medical services after detecting an irregularity with his blood sugar levels.
An ambulance from the Los Angeles Fire Department was promptly dispatched to Shatner’s residence as a precautionary measure. The actor was then transported to a nearby hospital for further medical examination. According to sources, Shatner was in stable condition and resting comfortably.
Representatives for Shatner have not yet issued a statement regarding the incident. The actor has been open about his health issues throughout his distinguished career. In March 2024, he revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma, a severe and aggressive form of skin cancer that has the potential to metastasize to other parts of the body.
Shatner first noticed a small lump under his right ear and sought advice from his family doctor, who suggested he keep an eye on it. However, a second consultation a month later revealed the lump was more serious than initially suspected. It was diagnosed as stage 4 melanoma. Despite the dire prognosis, Shatner underwent surgery to remove the lump and began an intensive immunotherapy treatment, which he attributes to his current cancer-free status.
In addition to his battle with cancer, Shatner also suffers from chronic tinnitus, a condition marked by a constant ringing or noise in the ears. This condition was caused by a special effects explosion on the set of a “Star Trek” episode in 1967.
Despite his age and health issues, Shatner has continued to lead an active lifestyle. In 2021, at the age of 90, he took part in Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin’s NS-18 Mission, describing the experience as deeply moving. Earlier this month, the actor announced his intention to attend the “Space 2 Sea” convention in the Galapagos Islands in November, featuring guest speakers such as famed astrophysicist Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson and former NASA astronaut Dr. Kathryn Sullivan.
