A tragic incident unfolded in a Texas CVS Pharmacy on Friday night when a security guard was fatally shot by an alleged shoplifter. The incident occurred in a Dallas store near Main Street shortly after 11 p.m. The guard, who was employed by a third-party security firm, encountered two individuals suspected of shoplifting. One of them reportedly drew a firearm and shot the guard before both suspects fled the scene, according to the Dallas Police Department.
The victim was identified as Anthony Egenou, a married father of three. His family confirmed his identity to local media. Egenou was rushed to a nearby hospital following the shooting, where he was pronounced dead.
As of now, the Dallas Police Department has not made any arrests or identified any suspects in connection with the shooting. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with the police department working closely with CVS.
CVS spokesperson Amy Thibault expressed the company’s cooperation with the police investigation. She stated that the incident occurred at their Main Street store and that the store and pharmacy were open for business the following day. Egenou was employed by a security company that provided additional surveillance in the retail store.
The store remained closed until 10 a.m. Saturday, three hours later than its usual opening time. Upon reopening, it welcomed more than a dozen customers. The incident has sparked concern among locals who frequent the store.
Rebekah Montgomery, a resident of downtown Dallas who lives in an apartment building adjacent to the CVS, expressed her apprehension following the violent incident. She stated that she would probably avoid going to the CVS alone, as she didn’t want to constantly worry about a potential repeat of the incident.
