A woman in Canada was the victim of a calculated attack when she was shot in the back by an individual posing as a construction worker. The incident occurred in Markham, Ontario, a city located north of Toronto, on January 21. The York Regional Police released video footage of the incident, which took place around 5:30 p.m.
The assailant arrived at the 41-year-old woman’s home in a dark Audi A4 sedan. He was dressed in a conspicuous safety vest, a yellow construction helmet, and a blue medical mask, standing on a snow-covered sidewalk outside her residence.
The woman encountered the disguised man upon arriving at her gated home. According to York Regional Police spokesman James Dickson, the man engaged the woman in conversation outside her house. The interaction led them to the edge of her driveway, where she handed him a piece of paper and a writing utensil.
The video footage then shows the woman turning her back to return to her house. At this point, the man drew his weapon and fired at her. Despite the gun appearing to malfunction, he managed to fire two more shots as she fled for safety.
The man then hastily retreated to his vehicle, executed a U-turn, and fled the scene. Despite the terrifying ordeal, the woman was struck by only one bullet and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. She received treatment at a local hospital and has since been discharged.
The police have stated that the woman did not know her attacker and they believe this was a premeditated assault. The search for the suspect, described as an Asian man with a slender build, is ongoing. The Toronto Sun reported that this is the second instance of a targeted shooting at this property. A man was hospitalized from a similar incident on June 8, 2024, a case that remains unsolved.
