An Alabama school cafeteria worker, Amy Nicole Wigginton, 41, has confessed to engaging in sexual activities with a male student under the age of 19. Court documents reveal that Wigginton, a married mother employed by Lauderdale County Schools, admitted to bringing the student to her home in Rogersville for the encounters on two separate occasions, March 7 and 31.
Wigginton’s confession came after local police confronted her about the allegations. She waived her rights and was taken into custody earlier this week. The identity and exact age of the student involved have not been disclosed by authorities. However, it is important to note that Wigginton is not being charged with having sex with a minor.
The charges she faces are two counts of a school employee engaging in a sex act. In Alabama, the age of consent is 16 years old. The Lauderdale County Schools system, where Wigginton was employed, comprises four high schools and seven elementary and middle schools.
In response to the allegations, the Lauderdale County Board of Education issued a statement saying, “The Lauderdale County Board of Education is aware of the allegations, and the employee has been placed on administrative leave. We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement officials, and have no further comment on this matter.”
Wigginton was arrested last week and is currently being held at the Lauderdale County Jail on a $100,000 bond. This incident follows a similar case involving Christina Formella, a married special education teacher in Illinois, who is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old male student.
Formella was arrested on March 16, and a video of her arrest, in which she breaks down upon hearing the charges, has since gone viral. The 30-year-old teacher later claimed that she was being framed by her young victim and targeted for being “good looking.”
