A former employee of a school in upstate New York has been accused of a felony for purportedly sending explicit images to a minor. Anamaria Milazzo, 22, who was employed by the Greater Southern Tier Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), was apprehended on Monday. The arrest came a week after a school resource officer received a tip-off about Milazzo’s alleged inappropriate conduct with a minor, as reported by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.
Milazzo, a resident of Elmira, is accused of sending explicit images to a 14-year-old boy over a span of three months. The charges against her include second-degree dissemination of indecent material to minors, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
Despite the severity of the charges, Milazzo was issued a citation and is scheduled to appear in Wellsburg Village Court at a future date. The identity of the 14-year-old boy has not been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether he was a student at the same BOCES school where Milazzo was employed.
GST BOCES confirmed that Milazzo was an employee at one of their facilities in Chemung County. However, they declined to provide further details about her employment duration or her role at the school, according to a report by WETM. Milazzo’s employment has since been terminated, as confirmed by school officials.
This incident underscores the importance of maintaining professional boundaries in educational settings and the potential consequences of crossing those boundaries. It also raises questions about the effectiveness of current measures in place to protect students from inappropriate conduct by school staff.
