A Florida couple was arrested after allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old boy who had driven their daughter home, mistakenly believing he was an adult. The incident, which involved a knife, a metal pipe, and a firearm, occurred at a residence in Deltona, Florida. The couple, identified as Rosa Lamourt Tiru, 45, and Lance Mulonas, 61, were charged with multiple felony offenses following the incident.
The situation unfolded when the boy dropped off the couple’s daughter after an overnight stay. The couple initially contacted law enforcement, reporting that an adult male had brought their daughter home. The boy later recounted that his vehicle was blocked by a white van as he pulled into the driveway, with the girl’s stepfather, Mulonas, approaching the car with a metal pipe.
The confrontation escalated when Mulonas allegedly struck the roof of the vehicle with the pipe and held a knife near the boy’s neck. Tiru is also accused of displaying a handgun during the encounter. The boy was eventually able to leave the property, meeting his mother at a nearby gas station where she reported the incident to emergency dispatchers.
The boy’s mother informed authorities that her son was 15 years old and that weapons had been used during the confrontation. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at approximately $4,000. The boy reported fearing for his life while trapped at the residence. No physical injuries were reported, but the alleged threats and property damage became central to the criminal investigation.
The case highlights how misunderstandings can quickly escalate into serious criminal allegations. The couple initially believed their daughter had been dropped off by an adult male. However, investigators later determined that the driver was a teenager and was the same age as the girl. The couple’s initial call to authorities did not include allegations that weapons had been displayed or that the teen’s vehicle had been damaged.
Both defendants were charged with aggravated child abuse and aggravated assault. Mulonas also faces additional counts of false imprisonment and criminal mischief. They were booked into the Volusia County Jail following their arrests. The charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The case has left neighbors and residents with questions about how a routine drop-off escalated into a police investigation involving multiple felony charges. The investigation continues, with a court hearing scheduled for July 1.
