Oklahoma Hospital Shooting Leaves 4 Victims Dead

Man Who Killed 4 in Tulsa Medical Center Bought Rifle Hours Before Attack, Police Say – The New York Times

A man who underwent back surgery last month killed four people with two guns he had purchased in recent days.

The shooter opened fire at the Natalie Medical Building on the St. Francis Hospital campus shortly after 4:50 p.m. local time, according to the deputy chief.

Police found four victims dead at Saint Francis Hospital, including two doctors. The gunman, who killed himself after the shooting, blamed his surgeon for continuing back pain.

A doctor inside the building told an off-site patient to call the police and report a shooting. Employees and patients scrambled to get out, and one doctor recognized the sounds as gunfire.

Kalen Davis, a lifelong Tulsa resident, saw police running toward a building with their guns drawn, and got emotional when she saw the officers taking long guns out of their trunks.

Authorities evacuated multiple floors of the building, and a reunification site was set up for family members and friends at Memorial High School. President Biden has been briefed on the shooting, and the White House has reached out to state and local officials for support.

Saint Francis Health System canceled all appointments in certain locations Thursday and closed the Orthopedic offices in the Natalie Building.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said the shooting was a senseless act of violence and hatred and asked Oklahomans to come together in support of the Saint Francis Health System community.

The shooting in Oklahoma was the latest in a series of mass shootings that have rattled the country in recent weeks. The shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde are just a few of these tragedies that are prompting legislators to modify current gun laws.
