This week, Anthony Michael Corrado, a 34-year-old man in Florida, was arrested for allegedly attacking his grandparents with a hammer. His 82-year-old grandmother was killed and his grandfather was badly hurt. After that, Corrado called a housekeeper to help him clean up the site of the crime, telling her it was “a real mess.” He was charged with one count each of depraved second-degree murder without premeditation and battery intentionally causing bodily harm as per the court records.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said that Corrado’s grandmother had an active order for protection against him at the time of her death. According to the affidavit of probable cause, Corrado had called the housekeeper at around 2:25 p.m. on May 17 asking for her help to clean the mess. When she asked him how his grandmother was doing, he answered that she was “gone”.
When the housekeeper arrived at the house, she saw the floor covered in blood and Corrado as well. When she asked to see his grandmother, Corrado told her she was in the bedroom. When the housekeeper entered the bedroom, she found a blue tarp on the floor with what appeared to be a person inside. She asked Corrado if the person was still alive and started to unwrap the tarp. She then found the victim with a plastic bag over her head. Corrado told her not to remove the bag because it would cause blood to splatter everywhere. He then asked her for help to get rid of the body and disable the home’s security camera system.
Corrado told the housekeeper that they couldn’t call the police because he would go back to prison. He also said they had to clean the home before his grandfather returned from the grocery store. Frightened, the housekeeper left the house and drove away while Corrado tried to stop her. She flagged down a deputy and reported the incident.
When the police arrived at the house, they found Corrado’s grandfather wrapped in a blanket with hammer blows on his head and back, but still alive. He was taken to the Gulf Coast Medical Center Trauma unit for treatment. Corrado was covered in blood and had spatter on his shirt, shorts, boots, both of his shins, and his forehead.
