Hairstylist Faces Charges for Allegedly Threatening Customer Over Payment Dispute

A hairstylist in Tennessee is facing legal charges after allegedly threatening a customer with a pair of scissors over a payment dispute. Mychelle Ray, 31, is being charged with aggravated assault and false imprisonment, as reported by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident reportedly took place on September 13 at Luv My Hair Salon in Memphis. According to the arrest affidavit, the customer had already paid a $50 deposit and $410 via Zelle at the salon. However, before the appointment concluded, Ray allegedly demanded an additional $50.

The situation escalated when the customer questioned the additional charge. Ray reportedly became extremely agitated, resorting to yelling and cursing. She is alleged to have threatened the customer with a pair of scissors, warning her not to move as the scissors were close to her face. Ray is also reported to have told the customer that she would not be allowed to leave until the additional payment was made.

According to the affidavit, Ray then locked the salon door and blocked the customer’s exit. Despite the tense situation, the customer was able to contact the police.

Ray was subsequently arrested and taken to the Shelby County Jail. She was later released after posting a $7,500 bail, as per online jail records. Ray is scheduled to appear in court on October 14.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining professionalism in all business transactions. It also underscores the need for clear communication and understanding between service providers and customers to avoid such confrontations.
