Police say the shooting appears to have been a targeted attack as investigators search for those responsible.
KENT, Wash. — A father and his young daughter were shot outside a McDonald’s restaurant after gunfire erupted in the parking lot, leaving both injured and triggering an extensive investigation by Kent police.
Authorities said the shooting happened while the father and daughter were near their vehicle outside the restaurant. Officers and emergency medical crews responded within minutes, providing medical aid before both victims were taken to a nearby hospital. Officials said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, although both remained under medical care following the attack.
Investigators said early evidence indicates the shooting was targeted rather than random. Detectives spent hours processing the scene, collecting shell casings, reviewing surveillance video from nearby businesses and speaking with witnesses who reported hearing multiple gunshots. Police temporarily closed portions of the parking lot while forensic teams documented evidence.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as customers rushed for cover after the gunfire began. Several people called 911, and officers quickly secured the area to ensure there was no ongoing threat. Detectives have not publicly identified the victims because of the continuing investigation and the involvement of a minor.
Authorities have not released details about a possible suspect or suspect vehicle. Detectives are working to determine what led to the shooting and whether the victims were specifically targeted before arriving at the restaurant. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and asking anyone who witnessed the incident or recorded video to come forward.
The shooting remains under active investigation. Police have not announced any arrests or filed criminal charges. Detectives said additional information will be released as evidence is reviewed and interviews continue. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is encouraged to contact the Kent Police Department.
