Teen Disneyland Rider Goes Down 50-Foot Drop

The boy was evaluated and released after a safety inspection cleared Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to reopen.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — A 13-year-old boy was taken to a hospital after exiting a ride vehicle Sunday evening on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland and continuing into the attraction’s final drop area, officials said.

The incident drew attention because it happened on one of Disneyland’s newest and busiest attractions, a log flume ride that ends with a steep drop of about 50 feet. Disneyland officials said the boy was evaluated as a precaution and later released. State safety inspectors reviewed the ride the next morning and cleared it to resume operations.

The incident happened around 6 p.m. June 21 inside Disneyland Park. Officials said the boy got out of the ride vehicle before the attraction had ended. A cast member stopped the ride after the teen left the log, and emergency responders were called. Disneyland officials said the guest was assisted by employees and then taken to a local hospital. “As a precaution, he was evaluated at a local hospital and released,” resort officials said in a statement. The boy’s name was not released because he is a minor.

Witness accounts shared after the incident said the teen appeared to slide or tumble down the final drop after leaving the boat. Disneyland officials have confirmed that the boy exited the ride vehicle, but they have not publicly detailed exactly how he moved through the drop area or why he left the log. The Anaheim Fire Department responded to the scene. The reported injuries were minor, including cuts and scrapes. No other guests were reported injured. The attraction was stopped and remained closed for the rest of Sunday evening.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opened at Disneyland in November 2024 in the renamed Bayou Country section of the park. The ride replaced Splash Mountain and uses the same type of water flume system, with guests seated in log-shaped boats. The attraction is based on Disney’s 2009 film “The Princess and the Frog” and ends with a large outdoor drop before riders return to the station. The Disneyland version does not use seat belts or lap bars, a point that drew attention after the incident, though officials did not say that ride design caused or contributed to what happened.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health inspected Tiana’s Bayou Adventure on Monday, June 22. Inspectors found no operational issues that required the ride to remain closed, and Disneyland reopened the attraction later that day. The review came as part of the state’s oversight of permanent amusement rides after an incident involving a guest injury or emergency response. Disney said safety remains a priority and that guests are expected to remain seated while rides are moving and until instructed to exit by employees.

The episode spread quickly after video and witness reports circulated online. Some guests described confusion as the ride stopped and workers moved through the attraction. Others said the final drop area made the incident especially alarming because it is one of the most visible parts of the ride. The teen was released from the hospital, and officials did not announce any charges or public disciplinary action. Disneyland has not said whether the boy or his family will face any park restrictions tied to the incident.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was back in operation after the state inspection. As of June 26, officials had not released additional findings, and the next public milestone would be any further statement from Disneyland or state safety regulators.
