Family of Four Found Dead in Their Home on Son’s Graduation Day

In a shocking incident in rural Dawson County, Nebraska, a man allegedly killed his wife and two sons before taking his own life. The tragedy occurred on the day of the elder son’s high school graduation, just three days after the man was discharged from a mental health facility.

The man, identified as 42-year-old Jeremy Koch, is believed to have fatally stabbed his 41-year-old wife, Bailey, and their sons, Hudson, 18, and Asher, 16. The Nebraska State Patrol reported that the incident took place on a Saturday, with the bodies discovered by Bailey’s parents around 9:45 a.m. All four family members had succumbed to fatal knife wounds.

Bailey’s parents, Lane and Peggy Kugler, shared their heartbreak on social media. They found their daughter, son-in-law, and grandsons dead in their beds, a sight they said would haunt them for the rest of their lives.

The incident is a tragic culmination of Jeremy’s long-standing battle with depression and suicidal tendencies. Bailey, a teacher, had been documenting her husband’s mental health journey on a dedicated Facebook page titled “Anchoring Hope for Mental Health.” She had recently posted about Jeremy’s five-day stay at a mental health hospital, expressing optimism about his recovery and thanking supporters for their prayers.

However, Bailey’s subsequent posts indicated that Jeremy continued to struggle with his mental health. Their elder son, Hudson, was due to graduate from Cozad High School on the day of the incident. The graduation ceremony proceeded as scheduled, albeit without Hudson’s presence.

The school district expressed its condolences, acknowledging the tragedy’s profound impact on the community. Bailey was remembered by Holdrege Public Schools, where she worked, as a passionate educator and a caring colleague.

Jeremy and Bailey, high school sweethearts, had been together for over 25 years. Bailey had previously shared on a now-deleted GoFundMe page that Jeremy had survived several suicide attempts, including a car crash.
