On Thursday, a heartwrenching incident in Waterloo, Iowa, left one 9-month-old infant dead and their grandmother seriously injured after a family pet unleashed an attack. The dog was described as a neutered boxer/hound mix.
Patrol officers and other emergency responders quickly responded to the call, only to declare the infant dead at the scene. The injured 49-year-old grandmother had been watching the infant and attempted to intervene when the attack occurred. She was subsequently rushed to a local hospital and transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital. Neither of their names has been released.
Following the incident, the pet was euthanized and sent to Iowa State University for testing. The attack and its severity underscore the need to remain vigilant and aware of pet behavior, even if it has been generally calm.
This tragic event serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the importance of maintaining social vigilance and animal awareness. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time.
