Decomposed Body Found in Search for Missing Man

In the ongoing search for a New York man who disappeared under mysterious circumstances in Turks and Caicos last week, local authorities have discovered a decomposed male body. The body was found in the Grace Bay area, but officials have yet to confirm if it is that of Brian Tarrence, the missing 51-year-old Manhattan resident.

Tarrence was last seen on June 25, three days after he arrived on the Caribbean island for a romantic anniversary trip with his wife. The couple had been married for a year. Surveillance footage captured Tarrence leaving his Airbnb accommodation at Paradise Inn in Grace Bay, Providenciales, around 3:30 a.m.

His wife, who is still in Turks and Caicos, has enlisted the help of a private investigator to aid in the search for her husband. Tarrence, who serves as the vice president of Diligent Software, had his cellphone and wallet with him when he left his rental. According to the private investigator, the area where he was last seen is generally considered safe.

The private investigator, Carl DeFazio, a former NYPD officer and US Marine, expressed his determination to continue the search despite the lack of success so far. DeFazio is currently attempting to access records of Tarrence’s phone activity during his time on the island. He hopes this information will help piece together Tarrence’s movements and potentially lead to his discovery.

The body was found in a decomposed state on Saturday, but authorities have not yet confirmed whether it is Tarrence. The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force has stated that there is currently no suspicion of criminal activity in relation to Tarrence’s disappearance.

The US State Department issued a travel advisory for the popular vacation island chain in March. The advisory was issued in response to a significant increase in violent robberies and gun-related crimes in 2024, with a 143% rise in the former and a 123% increase in the latter, according to InSight Crime.
