Crazed Homeless Man’s Attacks Leave One Woman in Coma

In a shocking incident earlier this month, two women in California were brutally assaulted by a man believed to be homeless. The first victim, 54-year-old Mary Klein, was attacked during her routine evening walk around the Venice canals at approximately 10:30 p.m. on April 6. The assailant, identified as 29-year-old Anthony Jones, reportedly ambushed Klein from behind, knocking her unconscious and causing significant dental damage.

Klein recounted the terrifying ordeal, likening the impact of the attack to being struck by a vehicle. She believes that Jones intended to kill her. Approximately an hour after the assault on Klein, Jones allegedly attacked another woman at the same location, leaving her in a coma. The identity of the second victim has not been disclosed.

The assault on Klein was particularly brutal. Jones reportedly knocked her down and bludgeoned her in the face and head, causing her to lose consciousness. When she regained consciousness, Jones had fled the scene. Despite her injuries, Klein managed to return home and even went to work the following day, unaware of the severity of her condition.

Klein’s injuries were extensive, including broken teeth, a fractured jaw that required wiring shut, a large wound on the back of her head, and multiple contusions and bruises on her face and neck. She will need several surgeries and physical therapy to recover fully, according to her family.

Klein, a single mother, has already undergone facial reconstruction surgery and is currently able to walk. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover her medical expenses. Meanwhile, the second victim remains in a coma.

Jones was arrested on April 9. Authorities believe that both attacks were random. The police also indicated that there was a “sexual element” to the assaults, although they did not provide further details. Jones has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and is currently detained at the LAPD Metropolitan Detention Center. His bail has been set at $3.25 million.

Klein, who is soon to become a grandmother, expressed her hope that Jones would receive a life sentence. She also called on local officials to address issues related to mental health, drug abuse, and homelessness.
