Coach Shot as Bullets Fly at Youth Baseball Game

A youth baseball tournament at the RAC Sports Complex on FM 2855 was disrupted by gunfire, resulting in one person being injured. The Waller County Sheriff’s Office reported that three individuals are facing charges of deadly conduct for allegedly discharging firearms near the baseball fields. The shots were reportedly aimed at targets in a nearby pasture, but some bullets strayed dangerously close to the players and spectators.

Among those caught in the chaos were Ashley Solano and her 11-year-old son, Liam. Ashley described the terrifying moment when a bullet whizzed past her face, missing her by mere inches. The incident triggered a panic among the spectators and players, with parents and children scrambling for cover.

Video footage from the scene captured the tense moments as the sound of gunfire echoed across the fields. Parents could be heard urging their children to get down as the shots rang out. The sheriff’s office responded to a firearms complaint around 9:50 a.m. Shortly after, a call reported that a 27-year-old man had been shot in the shoulder.

The injured man was airlifted to a hospital and later released. Authorities have identified the three individuals involved in the shooting. They are expected to face charges for their reckless actions, which the sheriff’s office defines as firing a weapon near people or property, potentially leading to misdemeanor or felony charges.

The Solano family remains shaken by the experience, unsure if they will ever feel safe at a baseball game again. “It frightens me to think this could happen anywhere,” Ashley said. As the investigation continues, no arrests have been made, and the names of the suspects have not been released.
