CEO missing more than 18 months after Uber ride found

It has been more than a year since Beau Mann, a 39-year-old CEO, went missing in late 2021 and his phone sent a mysterious 911 text. On Monday, Mann’s family and friends confirmed that his remains were discovered by the Santa Monica police in a grassy area located a mile from the Uber drop-off point. His identity was identified through dental records, however, police have not revealed any information about the cause and manner of his death.

On April 25, 2023, officers received a report of human remains found in the courtyard of an abandoned property in the 2900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard. This was later identified as Mann’s.

Mann was last seen at a convenience store on the 11000 block of Ventura Boulevard on November 30, 2021, at around 2:00 p.m. An Uber then picked him up from the store and dropped him off at Berkeley Street in Santa Monica. However, no one saw Mann at the drop-off address.

Mann’s fiancĂ©, Jason Abate, believes that his disappearance is linked to the Uber. He said that Mann had purchased some ice from the 7-Eleven on Ventura Boulevard, indicating that he was going home, and that it is unlikely that he would take a melting bag of ice into an Uber unless he was going home.

Mann’s phone had sent a 911 text shortly before his disappearance. The LAPD attempted to contact Mann to get more clarification but received no response. His family and friends suspect foul play and believe that the Uber emergency app was used to contact 911.

Mann’s family and friends remember him as a beautiful soul who dedicated his life to helping others. He was open about his struggles with substance abuse, and had created the social networking app, Sober Grid, to help those battling addiction.

The investigation into his death is still ongoing.
