Another train derailment in Ohio, residents told to shelter in place

On Saturday afternoon, a cargo train derailed in Springfield, Ohio. It is reported that the train is owned by Norfolk Southern, the same railroad company responsible for the disastrous train derailment in East Palestine on February 3.

The train was comprised of 212 cars, of which around 20-30 fell off the tracks.

Sergeant David Slanker of the Springfield Post of Ohio State Highway Patrol said they were investigating the contents of the derailed cars and if any were leaking, though he was unsure of whether any tanker cars were involved. However, a Norfolk Southern spokesperson told WDTN that there were no hazardous materials involved.

The Springfield Post of Ohio State Highway Patrol, Springfield Police Division, and Springfield Township Fire Department were on the scene and no injuries were reported.

The derailment also caused power outages in the area due to the downed power lines, causing the Clark County Emergency Management Agency to advise all residents that were within 1,000 feet of the derailment to shelter in place. They also asked local residents to avoid any travel near the area of the derailment.

Videos of the derailment were shared on social media, showing the exact moment the cars went off the tracks.
