6-year-old girl and parents shot over a stray basketball

On Tuesday night in Gaston County, North Carolina, a 6-year-old girl, Kinsley White and her parents were shot by a neighbor who had become enraged after a basketball rolled into his yard.

According to WSOC-TV, the suspected shooter, Robert Louis Singletary, ran down the street firing at a neighbor before returning and shooting the family.

Kinsley was left with stitches on her face from bullet fragments and her father, William White, was critically injured after trying to protect his daughter. He is still in the hospital Wednesday.
Ashley Hilderbrand, Kinsley’s mother, was grazed in the shooting, however the family is recovering at home.

Witnesses reported that Singletary kept shooting until he was out of bullets. He has been charged with 4 counts of first-degree attempted murder, 2 counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury, and single count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

The Gaston County Police Department is offering a reward of $1,000 for anyone who can help with finding and arresting Singletary. Police Chief Stephen Zill issued a statement, “I want to say to the people of Gaston County – this sort of violence will not stand.”
