6 dead in Mississippi shooting rampage

On Friday, a devastating event occurred in the town of Arkabutla, Mississippi, leaving six people deceased as a result of multiple shootings.

Richard Dale Crum, 52, from Arkabutla, was taken into custody and is being charged with first-degree murder, with more charges expected. Sheriff Brad Lance stated the shooting started at approximately 11am at a store and two different homes.

The suspect began by killing a man outside of a store before driving to a near residence on Bend Road, fatally shooting his ex-wife and wounding her husband.

Deputies spotted a car that matched the suspect’s description in the driveway of his house and he was arrested shortly after.

Two men were found dead at the suspect’s house, one on the road and the other in a car. Two more people were found dead in a house close to the suspect’s house, a man and a woman, believed to be related to the suspect. One more individual was injured, but did not have to be brought to the hospital. Two handguns and a shotgun were recovered from the suspect’s vehicle.

Arkabutla, which had a population of 285 from the 2020 Census, is a small town. The Tate County Sheriff’s Office reported that Crum is being held in the Tate County Jail without bond.
