5-Year-Old Dies in Tragic Swing Set Accident

A tragic incident unfolded in Fort Collins, Colorado, when a 5-year-old girl, Aurora Masters, lost her life after a swing set accident in her family’s backyard. The incident occurred on May 8, when the young girl was playing on the swing set and her neck became entangled in the outdoor toy, leading to her strangulation.

Aurora’s great aunt, Brenda Kennedy, shared the heartbreaking details of the incident. She explained that Aurora had moved her plastic slide near the swing and was playing when she got caught in the swing, which led to her strangulation. The exact details of the incident are still unclear.

The Fort Collins Police Department and emergency medical services were quick to respond to the distress call. They immediately initiated lifesaving procedures and transported Aurora to Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora. She was admitted to the intensive care unit in a critical but stable condition.

However, the lack of oxygen during the incident led to severe and irreversible brain swelling, as revealed by Kennedy on a GoFundMe page set up for Aurora. On May 11, the family made the heart-wrenching decision to transition Aurora to end-of-life care and organ donation.

Kennedy expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support on the fundraising page. She wrote, “If you looked up last night, or you look up tonight, you will see our Miss Aurora putting on a beautiful show for you with the borealis.”

The fundraiser for Aurora raised over $27,000 from more than 330 donors. The family plans to use the funds for Aurora’s memorial service and a “celebration of life.” Kennedy added that any remaining funds would be donated to organizations that would help keep Aurora’s memory alive.

A spokesperson for the Fort Collins Police Department confirmed to USA Today that there was no ongoing investigation into Aurora’s death as there was no evidence of foul play. The incident has been referred to as a “tragic accident.”
