2 dead, 3 in critical condition from stabbings outside Las Vegas casino: Police – ABC News
A suspect has been arrested after several stabbings took place in front of a Las Vegas casino on Thursday, killing two people and wounding six others.
Three of the six surviving victims were taken to hospitals, where they were in critical condition, police said. Among the three remaining victims, all three were in stable condition.
Police said one victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the other was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said in a news release that Yoni Barrios, 32, was taken into custody on two counts of open murder with a weapon and six counts of attempted murder with a weapon. The suspect was booked into Clark County Detention Center. The status of Barrios’ legal representation is unknown.
The incident occurred near the Wynn hotel and casino just before noon on South Las Vegas Boulevard in the 3100 block. A motive has not yet been determined, according to police captain Dori Koren.
“The initial stabbing is committed on the sidewalk. It appears to be an unprovoked attack. LaRochelle said earlier Thursday that there was no altercation beforehand. “ The stabbing occurs quickly, and the suspect then goes southbound on the sidewalk and stabs additional victims.”
There was a large kitchen knife found at the scene, according to police.
According to Lombardo, the victims are a mixture of locals and tourists, and police will provide information on them once their families have been notified.
The suspect is not believed to be from the area, and is believed to have acted alone, authorities said.
“Our thoughts are with the victims of this senseless attack on the Strip today,” Clark County officials said on Facebook. “We appreciate the quick response from the Clark County Fire Department, the LVMPD, and other first responders.”
