In a chilling incident that unfolded in Gresham, Oregon, a father, in a fit of jealous rage, attacked his wife and threatened to harm their children. The man, identified as Jesus Manuel Huchin-Interian, was on the run for three years before being apprehended and brought to justice on April 18. He pleaded guilty in a deal that is expected to result in a 70-month prison sentence.
The incident occurred in June 2021 when Huchin-Interian, suspecting his wife of infidelity, lost control of his emotions. He grabbed a knife and threatened to harm his wife and children. In the ensuing violence, he slashed his wife’s throat, leaving an 8-inch wound.
In the midst of this terrifying situation, the couple’s 10-year-old daughter displayed remarkable courage and quick thinking. She grabbed another knife and confronted her father, before retreating to her room with her younger siblings and locking the door. She then made a frantic call to the police as her father fled the scene.
Despite the severity of her injuries, the mother miraculously survived the attack. Huchin-Interian, however, managed to evade law enforcement until March 2024, when he was finally apprehended in San Francisco.
The case was prosecuted by Multnomah County Senior Deputy District Attorney Robin Beck Skarstad, who commended the young girl for her bravery. Skarstad highlighted the case as a stark reminder of the devastating impact domestic violence can have on children in the home.
Skarstad said in a press release, “The victim’s young daughter showed bravery and resilience that truly inspires us to work hard every day to interrupt the cycle of abuse and to keep families safe.”
