Middle School Teacher Charged with Rape of 12-Year-Old Student

An Alabama-based middle school teacher has been apprehended and charged with the rape of a 12-year-old student, as per the local police reports. Jill Brisendine Campbell, 47, was taken into custody following allegations by the boy that he had been subjected to sexual abuse by her for several years, starting in 2015 when he was merely 12 years old. The charges against Campbell, as stated by the Opelika Police Department, include rape and second-degree sodomy.

The victim, who is now older, reported that the sexual abuse took place during his 7th and 8th grade years at Opelika Middle School. The police investigation into the matter revealed evidence that supported the victim’s claims. Campbell, who has been a part of the school’s teaching staff for over two decades, has been put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by WRBL, Campbell engaged in sexual intercourse and oral sex with the boy until 2017. The teacher also confirmed the abuse in text messages sent to the boy, indicating that the abuse occurred while he was a student at their middle school.

The allegations against Campbell came to light after the parents of the alleged victim informed a school superintendent earlier this month. The superintendent subsequently alerted the police. Opelika Police Chief Shane Healey emphasized the importance of student safety, urging anyone with information about this case or any other crime to come forward.
