The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office has reported that, on January 16th, Doris Espinoza-Rodriguez got into an altercation with her boyfriend, Alleton Ricks, while the two were out for dinner. After the argument, Espinoza-Rodriguez texted Ricks that she would not be ‘going out by herself’ and then returned to the home she and Ricks shared with his 14-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter.
According to court documents, upon arriving back at the home, Espinoza-Rodriguez expressed her desire to hurt herself. When Ricks and his children attempted to calm her down, Espinoza-Rodriguez pulled out a knife and declared she was ‘going out in a bang’ before attacking all three.
The 14-year-old boy was stabbed in his left shoulder and chest area, and the 10-year-old girl was stabbed in her left shoulder. The 14-year-old was able to call 911 for assistance and when the deputies arrived, they found the 10-year-old lying in a pool of her own blood, having sustained life-threatening injuries. Both children had to be transported via helicopter to Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for medical treatment.
The deputies arrested Espinoza-Rodriguez, who Ricks was holding down, and found a paring knife with a black handle and blood on the blade where Ricks said it had been thrown. Sheriff Marcos Lopez stated that the 14-year-old boy had put himself in harm’s way in order to save his sister’s life, and that Ricks and Espinoza-Rodriguez had a ‘very odd relationship’.
Espinoza-Rodriguez is currently being held without bond, and is scheduled to appear in court at 2:30 p.m. on January 26th.
