Woman Fatally Shoots Man Threatening Husband

In a shocking incident in Salem, Indiana, a woman was forced to take lethal action to protect her husband from an armed assailant. The incident took place last Monday around 6:30 p.m., when 45-year-old Michael Chastain allegedly drove onto the couple’s front lawn.

Upon exiting his vehicle, Chastain is said to have accosted the male homeowner, forcing him to the ground and holding him at gunpoint. The wife, witnessing the altercation from inside the house, quickly armed herself and intervened, shooting Chastain.

According to Indiana State Police Sgt. John Davis, the wife observed the confrontation and took decisive action. “She saw the altercation, armed herself, went outside, and shot Chastain,” Davis said. Chastain was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Interestingly, Chastain had a previous relationship with the couple’s daughter, who no longer resides at the home. The motive behind Chastain’s actions, particularly his targeting of the daughter’s father, remains unclear.

The incident took place on Organ Springs Road in Salem, Indiana. Chastain, who had a criminal record, was known to local law enforcement prior to this incident.

The woman who shot Chastain has not been charged in connection with the incident. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Chastain’s death is ongoing, according to reports from WLKY.
