Woman Charged with Murder After Newborn Found Dead in Toilet

A 22-year-old Texas woman, Yanira Prado, has been charged with capital murder following the discovery of a deceased newborn in her toilet. The medical examiner’s report confirmed that the infant was alive at birth. Prado is currently detained at the Ector County Law Enforcement Center, facing charges of capital murder, tampering with evidence, and an immigration violation.

The Odessa Police Department responded to a call at Prado’s residence on October 9, where they discovered the deceased newborn. Prado was subsequently transported to the Medical Center Hospital for a medical examination. The circumstances surrounding the infant’s death raised suspicions among the investigators, leading to the decision to conduct a comprehensive autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.

The autopsy results, released on December 6, revealed that the full-term baby was not only born alive but also breathing. The cause of death was determined to be asphyxia. Following these findings, homicide investigators took over the case. They concluded that Prado had “intentionally and knowingly caused the death of the infant.” Prado was arrested without any resistance and charged with capital murder.

The case is now proceeding to the Ector County District Attorney’s Office. Prison records indicate that Prado is also facing charges of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with an intent to impair. Additionally, a federal immigration hold has been placed against her.

Prado is currently being held on a bail of $1 million. The case has sparked a wave of shock and concern among the local community, raising questions about the circumstances that led to this tragic event. As the legal proceedings unfold, the community awaits answers and justice for the newborn.
