Authorities in Canada have apprehended a woman suspected of committing three murders within a few days. Sabrina Kauldhar, 30, was taken into custody at a hotel in Burlington, Ontario, following the deaths of two men and a woman in the Toronto vicinity, according to the Niagara Regional Police Service.
Niagara Regional Police Chief Bill Fordy, in a press briefing, referred to Kauldhar as a serial killer. He justified this label by stating that the term applies when there are two or more offenses.
The series of alleged murders began on October 1, when Toronto authorities discovered a deceased woman in her 60s inside a residence. The following day, emergency services were summoned to a disturbance at John Allan Park in Niagara Falls. Upon arrival, they found a critically injured man.
Despite the best efforts of Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the Niagara Falls Fire Service, the man, identified as 47-year-old Lance Cunningham, was declared dead at the scene, as per a statement from the Niagara Regional Police Service.
The third incident took place on October 3, when a man was discovered with stab wounds in a Hamilton parking lot. The victim, 77-year-old retired teacher Mario Bilich, was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators were able to connect the Hamilton homicide to the earlier murder in Niagara Falls, as the suspect descriptions matched in both cases. Further links were established with the active homicide investigation from October 1 in Toronto.
According to investigators, Cunningham and Bilich were seemingly chosen at random, while the Toronto victim had a known connection to the suspect. The identity of the Toronto victim has been confirmed by authorities but has not been publicly disclosed.
Kauldhar faces charges of first-degree murder for the Hamilton incident and second-degree murder for the Toronto and Niagara Falls homicides, as per police reports.
