University Student Stabbed by Classmate in Unprovoked Classroom Attack

An Arizona State University student is currently recovering in the hospital after being stabbed by a fellow student. The incident occurred last Thursday when 19-year-old Kaci Sloan allegedly attacked her classmate, Mara Daffron, in a classroom in Glendale, Arizona. Reports suggest that Sloan had been contemplating an attack on one of two individuals, but ultimately chose Daffron, whom she perceived as an “easier target.”

According to court documents, Sloan is now facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct with a weapon. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office reported that Daffron was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following the attack. She underwent surgery and is currently in recovery.

Sloan was apprehended shortly after the incident by the ASU Police Department. Court documents reveal that Sloan had come to class with the intention of causing harm, although her exact motive remains unclear. The documents further state, “The defendant admitted she came to class to hurt somebody and was planning the attack since the night prior.”

The court documents also revealed that Sloan had prepared for the attack by placing a knife in her backpack to bring to school. She was familiar with Daffron’s first name but did not know anything else about her. The two shared a class this semester, and Sloan knew Daffron from a previous class.

Daffron, on the other hand, was unaware of why she was targeted by Sloan. Following the attack, a GoFundMe page was set up by neighbors to support Daffron and her family during this challenging time. The page states, “We know Mara will come out stronger than ever from this unimaginable attack. She is making great progress and is on the mend.”

Sloan is currently being held on a $250,000 cash bond, according to an ASU spokesperson. She is scheduled to return to court on September 30.
