A tragic incident unfolded in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood when a 5-year-old child was found dead and two other children were hospitalized after being discovered with stab wounds in a burning home. The mother of the children is suspected to be behind the violent act, as per various reports.
Emergency responders who reached the scene on Friday morning were met with a townhouse engulfed in flames. Inside, they found the children, all bearing stab wounds. The 5-year-old child was later pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other two children, aged 10 and 14, were admitted for treatment.
The fire originated in a brick townhouse in Logan Square and quickly spread to a neighboring home. Both residences were severely damaged by the fire, with smashed windows and scorched walls evident from the outside. The current condition of the two hospitalized children remains unknown.
While officials have yet to comment on the specifics of the incident, sources have informed CBS Chicago that the mother of the children is believed to have stabbed them before setting their home on fire. A family member reportedly made the 911 call.
An adult woman was also found inside the burning home and was transported to the hospital by police. The fire’s spread to the neighboring house resulted in another woman being hospitalized due to smoke inhalation. Both homes were left in a state of ruin, with images from the scene showing the extensive damage caused by the fire.
