A devastating event occurred at a well-known tourist spot in Bali, resulting in the death of a man who was swept away by a powerful wave. The victim, Nilesh Mukhi, a 59-year-old father of two, was photographing the scenic beauty of Angel’s Billabong, a natural infinity pool infamous for its perilous conditions, when a forceful wave knocked him off a cliff.
Mukhi and his wife, Kavita, were posing for a picture near the cliff’s edge when a massive wave pulled them into the water. The incident took place on a Wednesday, and Mukhi’s body was found the next morning. Kavita was rescued promptly and sustained only minor injuries.
Amin Asghar, the president of Skal International travel agency, shared the details of the tragic event. Asghar stated that the couple’s driver, who was also their photographer, had warned them to step back from the edge of the cliff due to the turbulent sea and large waves, a result of the full moon. However, before they could respond, a massive wave struck the cliff and pulled Mukhi into the sea.
Mukhi’s body was recovered in Nusa Dua, roughly 12 miles from Angel’s Billabong, after a search operation conducted by local police and the Indonesian navy. Angel’s Billabong, situated on the island of Nusa Penida, a brief ferry or boat ride from mainland Bali, is admired for its natural infinity pool and crystal-clear waters. However, it has also gained notoriety as a “death trap” due to several near-fatal incidents involving tourists.
In 2018, a similar incident took place when a Chinese national, Qiuwei Anhui, was swept away by a wave and drowned while taking a selfie. In 2016, an Australian couple on their honeymoon were hit by a wave, resulting in the wife being washed ashore the next day.
Mukhi, a resident of Kolkata, India, was employed as a travel agent for Skal International. He leaves behind his two sons, Gaurav and Yash.
