Uche Ojeh, the spouse of Sheinelle Jones, a co-anchor on NBC’s “Today” show, has tragically died at the age of 45. Ojeh had been courageously battling glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. His untimely death has deeply affected his loved ones, including his wife and their three children, Kayin, 14, and 12-year-old twins Clara and Uche.
Savannah Guthrie, a fellow co-host on the “Today” show, expressed her profound grief over Ojeh’s passing. She described him as an extraordinary individual who was universally loved and admired. She also commended his bravery in his battle against the disease. Before his death, Ojeh was under hospice care, demonstrating his courageous fight against the illness.
Ojeh, whose full name was Uchechukwuka Adenola Ojeh, and Jones tied the knot in 2007. In mid-January, Jones, 46, announced that she would be taking a hiatus from the third hour of the “Today” show to attend to a family health issue. She expressed her appreciation for the support she received from her “Today” show colleagues and her fans during her absence.
The love story of Jones and Ojeh began in the late ’90s at Northwestern University. After dating for eight years, Ojeh proposed to Jones at their alma mater during a rainstorm. Jones shared their proposal story during a 2018 “Today” show segment, revealing that Ojeh had surprised her twice before with what she thought were proposals.
Throughout their marriage, Jones emphasized the importance of their children understanding their diverse backgrounds, including Ojeh’s Nigerian heritage. In September 2023, Jones shared a heartfelt anniversary message to Ojeh on Instagram, reflecting on their life together and the beautiful memories they had created.
In April, Jones’ colleagues addressed her extended absence from the network. Calvin Melvin, another co-host, shared that Jones was taking time to be with her family. Al Roker and Dylan Dreyer, fellow “Today” show hosts, also expressed their support and prayers for Jones during this difficult time.
