Student Killed in Freak Highway Incident

A tragic accident on a Georgia highway claimed the life of a 20-year-old college student when a car part dislodged from a truck and crashed through the windshield of the vehicle she was in. Autumn McClure was in the passenger seat of her boyfriend’s car, en route to drop her younger brother at daycare, when the incident occurred. The brake caliper that flew off the truck struck McClure in the chest and neck, causing her immediate death, according to her family.

McClure’s sister, Simone Matherly, expressed her disbelief and grief over the sudden loss in a Facebook post. The incident, which took place on I-75 in Ringgold, Georgia, is currently under investigation by local police. The aftermath of the accident was captured in a photo shared online, showing a gray Hyundai with a large hole in its shattered windshield.

McClure, a resident of Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, located just north of the Georgia border, passed away before emergency services could reach the scene, her brother, Collin Le, shared in a social media post. He urged people to take a moment to call their loved ones and for those driving trucks to be mindful of the potential risks of items flying out and causing harm to others.

McClure, who had a twin sister, Ivy, was set to celebrate her 21st birthday the following month. Ivy expressed her love and grief for her twin in a Facebook post, stating that she would miss her for the rest of her life. McClure’s boyfriend, Tyler Nunley, who survived the incident, described her as the most spectacular part of his life in an Instagram post.

McClure, a graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School, was studying graphic design at Chattanooga State Community College. She was remembered by her professor, Emily Bassett, as one of her brightest students. An online obituary penned by her family described her as a sweet soul who touched many lives. McClure was also known for her love of animals, and her family requested donations be made in her name to her favorite wildlife charities.
