Jabari Henley, a 34-year-old man and son of Eugene Henley Jr., a former leader of the Rollin’ 60’s Neighborhood Crips and a notable figure in the music industry, was tragically killed in a shooting incident in South Los Angeles on Friday night. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. near the intersection of 69th Street and Figueroa Street, outside a local smoke shop.
Reports indicate that Henley was approaching a vehicle when one or more unidentified individuals began shooting. The assailant or assailants subsequently fled the scene and are currently at large. Despite the immediate response and efforts of emergency services, Henley was declared dead at the scene.
Known also as “Baby Uiie,” Henley was the older sibling of Daiyan Henley, an inside linebacker for the Los Angeles Chargers. His father, Eugene Henley Jr., also known as “Big U” in the music industry, was involved in a separate incident earlier this year.
In March, the elder Henley surrendered to federal agents after being accused of running a “Mafia-like” criminal organization involved in murder, human trafficking, robbery, and extortion in Los Angeles. He was among 18 alleged members of the Rollin 60s street gang charged in a comprehensive federal racketeering complaint filed by the US Attorney’s Office.
The indictment alleged that Henley Jr., 58, operated a criminal network involved in numerous felonies, tax evasion, and embezzlement of donations to his charity, the “Big U Enterprise.” He was also implicated in the murder of aspiring musician Rayshawn Williams in January 2021. Williams, who had signed with Henley Jr.’s Uneek Music label, was allegedly killed by Henley Jr. after recording a defamatory song about him.
Another figure in the music industry, Termaine Ashley Williams, known as “Luce Cannon,” was also named in the indictment and is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. He reportedly informed Henley Jr. of his son’s shooting.
The Los Angeles Police Department has not confirmed the details of the shooting or whether it was gang-related. Some speculate that Henley may have known his attacker, but this has not been confirmed.
