Former TV Anchor Fatally Stabs Her Elderly Mother

A former television news anchor from Missouri is accused of fatally stabbing her elderly mother on Halloween morning, according to local reports. Angelynn Mock, 47, reportedly emerged from a residence in a quiet Wichita, Kansas neighborhood, covered in blood and seeking help to call 911.

Residents of the neighborhood were left in shock as Mock, bloodied and distressed, approached a vehicle asking for assistance to dial emergency services. Alyssa Castro, a local resident, recounted the chilling encounter to KAKE, a local news outlet. According to Castro, Mock borrowed her phone and quickly returned to the house, where she contacted the authorities.

Upon calling 911, Mock allegedly told Sedgwick County dispatchers that she had stabbed her mother in self-defense. When officers from the Wichita Police Department arrived at the scene, they found Mock outside the house, her hands bearing multiple bloody cuts.

Inside the house, officers discovered 80-year-old Anita Avers, Mock’s mother, unresponsive in her bed with multiple stab wounds. Avers was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but succumbed to her injuries within half an hour, as per the police department’s report.

Mock was promptly arrested and charged with first-degree murder. She is currently being held at the Sedgwick County Jail on a $1 million bond, as confirmed by the county’s sheriff’s office.

Castro, whose phone was used to call the authorities, expressed relief that she was able to assist in the situation. She told KAKE that the incident was a stark reminder of the unseen struggles people may be facing.

Avers, the victim, was a marriage and family therapist at Wichita Counseling Professionals, her husband confirmed to local media. Mock, on the other hand, had a varied career history. She served as a morning and evening fill-in anchor at KTVI Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, as per her LinkedIn profile. After leaving the broadcasting industry, she held various sales positions in St. Louis until 2017. Following a two-year break from work, she joined a data management company with several offices in the Midwest, including one in Wichita.
