Sheriff’s Deputy Fatally Shot Responding to Domestic Violence Call

A tragic incident unfolded in Ohio when a sheriff’s deputy was fatally shot while responding to a domestic violence call. The accused, Brian Michael Wilson, 53, is facing charges of aggravated murder following the incident that took place on Memorial Day. The victim, Morrow County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Sherrer, 31, had been dispatched to Wilson’s residence following reports of a domestic disturbance.

Sherrer, a four-year veteran of the sheriff’s department, was reportedly met with gunfire upon his arrival at the scene. The incident was captured on Sherrer’s body camera, which recorded the alleged confrontation with Wilson leading up to the fatal shooting.

According to reports, Sherrer approached Wilson’s home where the suspect was allegedly seated on his front porch, armed and warning the deputy not to approach. Despite the threats, Sherrer continued to engage with Wilson, who allegedly escalated his threats and vulgarities.

The situation took a deadly turn when Wilson allegedly opened fire on Sherrer. Court documents indicate that Wilson used two handguns in the incident, both of which were recovered at the scene. The audio captured by Sherrer’s body camera reportedly included the sound of one of Wilson’s guns being fired until it ran out of ammunition.

A neighbor of Wilson’s reportedly told police that the suspect had expressed a disregard for his own life earlier that night. Wilson’s criminal history dates back to the 1990s, including a 2009 arrest following a domestic violence incident in his former home in Ohio’s Marion County.

Wilson was also injured in the incident, having been shot by police. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition. A warrant has since been issued for his arrest on charges of aggravated murder.
