Senior Prank Shuts Down High School for a Day

A senior prank at a New Jersey high school escalated to such an extent that it led to the cancellation of all classes for the day. The prank, which was carried out at South River High School, involved the rearrangement of furniture, removal of gym equipment, and the covering of hallways with toilet paper, among other acts of mischief. The extent of the disruption was such that the school premises resembled a chaotic scene.

The pranksters left a trail of disarray at South River High School, prompting school officials to cancel classes due to the disorderly state of the school. South River Mayor Peter Guindi confirmed that while nothing was broken or stolen, the movement of tables, desks, and gym equipment contributed to the chaos. He acknowledged that while pranks are a common part of youth, this particular incident crossed a line.

The school was forced to close for the day due to the vandalism, which was referred to as a “criminal mischief incident”. Initially, the school had hoped to resume classes after a 90-minute delay, but the extent of the disruption led to the decision to cancel all classes for the day.

The South River Police Department has launched an investigation into the prank. Despite the disruption, the school was set to reopen the following day. The South River School District has yet to comment on the incident or whether the students involved will face disciplinary actions.

This incident is not an isolated one, as other high schools in the tristate area have also experienced similar pranks. For instance, a brawl involving hundreds of teenagers occurred at Jones Beach State Park during a planned senior skip day last week. In another incident, seniors at Malibu High School in California caused significant damage by supergluing classroom doors shut and driving golf carts down staircases.
