Renowned Soap Opera Actor Dies at 65

Mark Dobies, a veteran actor celebrated for his performances in the well-known soap operas “Guiding Light” and “One Life to Live,” has died at the age of 65. His passing was confirmed on March 11, according to his obituary published in New Jersey. The circumstances surrounding his death have not been revealed.

Dobies was fondly remembered in his obituary as a devoted father, successful athlete, and gifted actor who led a life characterized by fervor, tenacity, and affection. Alan Locher, who previously worked as a publicist for “Guiding Light,” shared his grief over Dobies’ death on Instagram. He referred to the news as “truly sad and unexpected.” Locher recalled Dobies as a genuinely kind individual and requested thoughts for his family during this difficult period.

Dobies was born on April 3, 1959, in Philadelphia. Before embarking on his acting career, he was a football player on a scholarship at Delaware Valley University. His first acting role was in the drama series “Fame L.A.” in 1997. He rose to prominence for his portrayal of Dr. Noah Chase in “Guiding Light” on CBS, where he appeared in 14 episodes of the soap opera in 2000.

In addition to his roles in “Guiding Light” and “One Life to Live,” Dobies’ acting credits include appearances in episodes of “All My Children,” “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” “Home Improvement,” “Melrose Place,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Gossip Girl,” “Fringe,” “CSI: Miami,” and “Just Shoot Me!” among others.

In 2004, Dobies was part of the off-Broadway revival of “The Normal Heart.” He spoke positively of the production in an interview with Soap Opera Digest, commending the cast and the script.

Dobies is survived by his three children, Francesca, Olivia, and Robert, his mother Suzanne, his brother Paul, and his sister Sandy.
