Her body was received by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office from an address in Parma, Ohio.
A representative from the local police department confirmed to TMZ that the cause of death appears to be suicide. Karter, who was known for her beauty and passion for dancing and singing, had been battling mental health issues, according to those close to her.
A GoFundMe page set up in her memory highlighted her kindness and generosity. “Kagney was kind. Kagney was generous. As cold as the world could be, Kagney brought with her a light,” wrote two of her friends on the fundraising page. Despite her struggles, Karter was remembered for her resilience and her efforts to support her friends and community.
The GoFundMe page also noted that Karter faced mental health challenges over the years. “Despite all of her many impressive accomplishments and talents, Kagney struggled with mental health issues as the years passed by,” the page read. Her friends, who knew her through fitness studios, said that she fought her battles with the same tenacity and drive she showed in every other area of her life.
The funds raised through the GoFundMe campaign will be used to cover memorial costs. The page stated that Karter “tragically took her own life” at her residence.
